Summer is HERE!

Summer is here! The sun is like a natural adrenaline drug to me.  I get so eager and excited to try new things as soon as the temps climb. I love to see and experience as much as I can outside. The warm wind, and even the humid air make me feel alive. But how ’bout these summer rains?! They play on my emotions the EXACT OPPOSITE way that the brightest, boldest star in the sky does. I get depressed, irritable, sad, and even angry! And yet, I know that both weather patterns are necessary to the vitality of nature, wildlife, and even to us as humans. I was in a yoga class recently when the teacher was talking about the 5 Kleshas, or “afflictions of the mind”.  She reminded us that when we cling to these mental states and allow ourselves to blame, and attach our emotional well-being on outside or external circumstances, we are letting other people and situations dictate how we feel. In other words, WE ARE IN CHARGE OF OUR EMOTIONS, and no one or nothing else is!  If we get jealous of our neighbor’s beautiful new car-that’s on us-not them. If we are afraid of losing, and therefore don’t even try, we are missing out! If we carry an angry grudge towards an old friend, we are building up unhealthy energy on our insides–not them. If I am pouting and huffing and puffing about the rain and cloudy skies, I AM SUFFERING-NOT MOTHER NATURE! So, even though I will always be a big fan of the sunny skies and hot temperatures, I’ll still CHOOSE to be thankful for the clouds, the rain, and the cool air.
(…and secretly hope that the latter only happens at night while I’m asleep!) 


During the months of June, July, and August, class will be from 4:00-5:00pm.We will still meet on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month WITH THE EXCEPTION OF JUNE. Due to Father’s Day class will be held on June 23 (instead of the 16th). Mark your calendars!
(Note: There will be no Lunar Stretch Yoga on July 4)
